COVID-19
From the August 2020 Patriot Post:
"The Tustin Unified School District has announced the athletics program at Beckman high school will restart on Monday August 10. TUSD suspended school athletics and activities on July 10 after the State notified school districts to postpone sports training programs until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic."
"The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has released new guidance for youth sports activities to reopen including school-based club and recreational programs. All youth sports and physical eductation in Orange County must follow State guidelines of physical distancing and safety protocols. Sports activities will take place outdoors and no close contact will be permitted under the State's guidance."
Here is a link to the CDPH information that is being referenced:
Per the California Interscholastic Federation, the governing body for high school sports in this State, the basketball season has been postponed until spring of 2021. The date of the first contest has been set in early March 2021 with the regular season concluding in late May 2021.
The COVID-19 pandemic is without precedence. Procedures are continuously being evaluated and improved as lessons are learned. Information is changing quickly so please be patient with us. We understand what is at risk and are working to educate our children while keeping everyone safe.
Updates are being communicated through the numerous channels of communication from Beckman and TUSD. For those updates that directly impact the Beckman Girls Basketball Program, we will try to communicate to both players and parents directly via E-mail.
Here is a general description of the phased safety procedures currently in place:
Phase-1 training will be focused on conditioning and foot work. Players will be split into small groups under direct supervision of a member of our coaching staff.
Phase-2 training will include the addition of balls to build individual ball handling skills. Group skills with shared equipment shall be added but equipment cleaning must occur before and after each use.
Phase-3 will more closely resemble normal team practice and competition with additional controls and cleaning requirements.

Beckman Girls Basketball Program
The Girls Basketball Program consists of two teams: Varsity and Junior Varsity. Official tryouts are in August following the return to school. Tryouts are used to evaluate the player’s skill level, athleticism, and to gain a glimpse of the player’s basketball IQ.
Everything is earned in this program, effort and hard work is expected every day.
COVID Update: Basketball has traditionally been a Winter sport however, due to the COVID pandemic, CIF has moved the 2020-2021 basketball season to the Spring. Workouts and practices shall begin in early September following tryouts in late August 2020. This year-round approach will ensure our players stay in shape, build on their skills, and continue development as a team.
